During his tenure at TAACE, Mr. Al-Hussain worked directly with the Principal as site architect for the construction of the HRH Prince Saud Al-Faisal Palace. Mr. Al-Hussain was promoted to Office Manager of TAACE and oversaw a wide variety of residential, commercial and mixed-use projects designed, managed and constructed by TAACE through 1990.
In 1991 Mr. Al-Hussain relocated to the U.S. to the Fairfax County area of suburban Washington, D.C. By early 1992 Mr. Al-Hussain formed Pillars and became President of Edgemoore Homes, a single-family homebuilding J.V. that included Mr. Richard Snider. In addition, Mr. Al-Hussain, was co-founder in 1995 of Basheer & Edgemoore, a high-end community development and home building entity.
Following on the successes of both Edgemoore and Basheer & Edgemoore, Mr. Al-Hussain led Pillars Development Group in 2000 to create a high rise / high density commercial development arm branded as Diamond Properties focusing on close in, urban centric development and construction sites.
Together, these brand names have compiled over $1.7 Billion of completed residential and commercial real estate development, including the design, construction, marketing, sales, and or rentals of those projects, all areas in which the Pillars brand names were consistently recognized with both regional and national awards for their projects.
Today, the underlying Pillars Development Group is the brand name continuing the award winning traditions established since 1992, and led by Mr. Al-Hussain into the future with a highly targeted, ultra specific focus on urban-centric / Metro – served sites in the Washington, D.C. region.
Ahmed Y. Al-Hussein was awarded his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Kiel, in Kiel, Germany in 1989. From graduation until mid 1995, Dr. Ahmed was occupied in the specialty of pediatric medicine at the University Hospital of Kiel, Germany area while simultaneously exploring a budding interest in business. In 1995, Dr. Ahmed discontinued his medical career and engaged full time in a partnership where he established a multi-branch business in Germany. In 1998, he sold his business interests in Germany and moved to the U.S. where he joined Husain Y. Al-Hussain in forming Pillars Development Group’s Diamond Properties high-rise construction brand.
As a co-founder of Pillars Development Group, Dr. Ahmed manages Pillar’s business development. Furthermore he manages legal affairs, including acquisition contracts, settlements and operating agreements. Through his extensive interaction with landowners during acquisition efforts, Dr. Ahmed has built a wide and reliable network of owners brokers with whom he in continuous contact for up to the minute site acquisition information.
Dr. Ahmed has managed the contracting and feasibility study / due diligence phases of more than 2000 residential lots and sites in the Washington Metropolitan area for Pillars branded companies. Disposition of these sites was often to Diamond Properties itself, or to another of Pillars Development Groups operational brand names, Edgemoore Homes or Basheer & Edgemoore. In other cases, Edgemoore or Diamond developed the sites for sale to 3rd party builders as ‘finished lots’ with all entitlement, planning, engineering and development work in place.
The third party builder lot sales area of Pillars’ business continues in operation today, with the most recent and current project being Marbury, in Loudon County, VA, where Pillars is delivering finished lots to NV Homes, a public stock homebuilder with significant operations in the suburban Washington and mid-Atlantic markets. Dr. Ahmed has found that his ability to maintain his network of potential sellers and brokers continues to lead Pillars to lucrative and well-located properties to be studied for potential acquisition and development.
